Knee & Hip Problems Message Board

Knee & Hip Problems Board Index

I had TKA in Dec 2006. April 23, 2007 when I got out of bed my knee felt totally normal..for the first time in 35 years. It does predict the weather though. I have about 150 ROM. That is some better than I had before the surgery. I literally can do everything I want. After I had ACLr I had an area of numbness that gradually went away. I have that numbness again and it is gradually going away. It may never completely go away.
Hi, i am going to be new to knee replacement this year 2011. I need both knees done but i am not doing that at the same time. I am really scared as i dont know what to expect after surgery, since finding these message boards i have been reading a lot of the recovery stories and understand it is a long and painful road. How was it for you when you came round from the surgery? Is the pain really bad? Hope you dont mind me replying to your thread as all the others are closed and you are new to all this to!! Any info you would like to share also hints and tips would be great.

Wishing you all the best with a continued and speedy recovery
how long for full recovery in total knee replacement?
I don't believe there is an exact answer for that question. I have known of people out on the golf course in two months and then there are people like me going on two years with constant pain and now going to see a third doctor. But it does take a while for the average. Some people get over it and are happy as a lark that they had this surgery and then others that say they would never do it again.

I don't believe one can give an exact amount of time for full recovery. I konw a lady in her 80s that was out driving in a month. Then there are people like me who still have pain well after two years. I have seen three different doctors, had one of the finest do the surgery, have had every kind of test available to determine where and why this pain is still here and no answers.
Has anyone ever had their TKR redone with a different type of apparatus?
I am afraid doing that might be even worse than what I have at the moment, but I don't want to live with this forever. As is the other knee is going to need replacement and I'm putting that off as long as possible.
My life is not the same as it was three years ago. I cannot get down on the knee and do any gardening that was one of favorite things to do. I had to get a cleaning lady because I began to wonder what might be growing beneath the beds and couches since I could not get down there to clean. I finally sold my large home and moved to an Independent Living apartment where I do my gardening on the large deck I have. I simply could no longer handle a five bedroom home with just me being there nor did I need it. I now have a very beautiful apartment with all the amenities you can think of. It is 1542 square feet and all I need for just me. As much as I hated moving it was no doubt the smartest thing I could have done for me and my children when I go out the door feet first they will have it easy especially since they all live out of town from me.
