Knee tumor
Oct 12, 2008
I was just diagnosed this past week with a knee tumor about 3 centimeters large which is in a bone towards the back of the knee. I have knee pain, limited movement and am on crutches because of it. Could this have happened due to a previous fall, how do you get a tumor in that location, and what will the orthopedist oncologist due for me when I see them this week? I am truly scared and does that mean I have more tumors elsewhere?

Hi and welcome to healthboards!!:)
For most of your questions it varies on the type of tumor. For example, there are a number of different types of tumors some are benign (noncancerous) such as cysts and others are malignant (cancerous) such as a form of sarcoma. No this does not necessarily mean you have other tumors elsewhere. I would recommend that you read through some of the other posts. I have recently posted on tumors in my knee but I currently don't know details either. My GP is getting me referred to a specialist probably an orthopedic surgeon that is also and orthopedic oncologist but my situation is a little complicated because I have already had cancer 4 times including in the same leg.
Hope you find these boards as helpful as a number of us have and good luck with everything! If you have more questions please continue to post a number of us including me check the boards almost everyday.

Hi Susan-
I agree with Cardshark. Let us know what kind of tumor you were dx'd with. I know when a dr tells you that you have a tumor of any kind it sends the chills thru you. But there are so many different kinds and many are benign. Keep positive thoughts until you know for sure what you are up against. I have synovial chondromatosis in my knee and they are benign but I still get jittery to get them out. You should see an orthopedic oncoologist for the removal whether it is benign or cancerous. Let us know what you find out and good luck.
