Pain on outside of knees and legs

Hi, I am 52 and I have had knee pain for about 3 yrs. along with fibromyalgia. My MRI showed that the cartilage is getting thin.

My pain is mostly on the outside of my knees and radiates up and down my thighs. It is terrible, and I can't do any exercise, even walking, because it makes it worse and the pain gets unbearable. The doctors are not really helping me. They mentioned that I could also have something called IT Band tendonitis. I had some shots, but they really didn't help.

Any advice?
