I am so sorry to hear about your mother! I just had my hip done 3 weeks ago and did not have any drainage tubes. The procedure my doctor uses doesn't require leaving drainage tubes in (plus my doctor puts a cocktail of antibiotics and pain killers in the joint before he closes it up and it works like a charm).

My biggest concern going into surgery was the possibility of contacting an infection. I've heard of cases where the doctors have had to remove the new joint in order to clear up the infection: because of the implant, it is much more difficult for the body to recognize and fight an infection. I was told about one gentleman who had to spend a whole year in the hospital getting rid of the infection in his new hip. They had to remove the hip implant in order to fight the infection then redo the surgery before sending him home.

I pray that your mother's doctors get the MRSA under control soon and that she doesn't have to endure what the man I mentioned above had to.

My prayers are with you.
