Hi message board members,
I have recently found out that I need to have lateral release surgery on my right knee. :eek:My knee cap keeps slipping out of place and the knee itself is swollen very bad and is painful. It also gives out on me and I have arthritis and a cyst in it. My question is to anyone that has been through this type of surgery is: What is the recovery time like, how long do you have to wear the knee mobilizer and was there a great amount of pain? I am so ready to be relieved of this pain, but I have heard that there is alot of P.T. and recovery after the surgery. Also is done outpatient? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
 Greatly waiting,
Hi. I had a scope and lateral release done on my left knee last September. I had to wear the knee immobilizer for 2 weeks after the surgery. The surgery was outpatient. There is pain after the surgery, but for me, it was a different kind of pain than the pain before surgery. It was less intense. The total recovery time for me was 5 months, but I developed bursitis in my knee during the recovery process.

I have also developed the same issue of kneecap subluxation in my right knee along with a ligament issue and meniscal changes, so I may be facing surgery again. The subluxation doesn't seem as pronounced this time, but the surgeon figures that it is only a matter of time.

I hope that I answered some of your questions. If you have any other questions or need clarification, please feel free to ask.
Thank you for you reply to my questions, I truly appreciate it. This has help me out alot. Now I just have to wait and schedule my surgery.
Thanks again,
