I am scheduled for left TKR in mid-Feb. My drs ofc said 3 days in hosp & 3 days in rehab & them home. I can have local PT (already found one close to home), if I want (and I want!). From what I am reading on this site, 6 days then home seems aggressive. I have a lot of other medical problems (seizures, other knee shot too, pituatury tumor in brain, fibro, menieres, balance problems, neck & back problems, etc). I currently use a forearm crutch to walk and a wheelchair for any distance walking, so I am used to 'working around' stuff.

Does anyone think the time in hosp & rehab rather short?

thanks,
Jencat
MUCH too short in my opinion. And especially with your other health problems. As far as I know insurance covers rehab facilities after three nights in the hospital. Maybe your doc can extend your hospital stay. If not, make sure you get as much time as possible in a rehab. They do wonders with the PT. As much help as most of us need from a TKR it sounds like you could use more and I would push for it. Do you have someone at home to be with you all of the time?
Wishing you well and let us know how things go. Start working on it now to be sure you know what to expect and where they will let you go. I recently found out that some insurance companies allow you to go to the rehabs they choose. I spoke to the head person in the Home I wanted to go to and made sure he knew if I didn't have a private room arranged I would go elsewhere. It worked.
