It does sound like it's time for her to get it. And immobility will weaken muscle and bone, and make it harder to recover.

You don't want a joint replacement until it's clearly necessary, but once it reaches that point, it's best to have the surgery as soon as is reasonably possible. Have you asked her why she doesn't feel ready? She may be concerned about a difficult recovery or negative outcomes.

Well first off thanks for taking the time to reply. The following are some of the reasons for my wife waffling:

The Dr. says I will know when I am ready.
I'll miss some tennis while recuperating. (The ladies will actually play in 20 degree weather).
The Cortizone relieves the pain.
Some people have had difficult recovery periods.

We know a number of people who have had successful knee replacements and the surgery could have been done in November. Now I feel it will be deferred until November and other excuses for postponing it will pop up. Really frustrating as there are other physicians who say do it as soon as possible?????

Your reply said to "wait until it is clearly necessary". With my wife's tollerance for pain, that might be pretty tough to determine. As I said my main concern is the possibility of other damage caused during the delays while she is able to deal with pain.

Thanks again
