Knee & Hip Problems Board Index

I've had three hip arthroscopies, my jaw sawn through and bolted into place, and a lumbar fusion. The jaw surgery was the easiest recovery, except for the difficulty eating. The fusion was an easier recovery than any of the three scopes, but the fusion was inpatient surgery, described by most as a "major surgery". I think every patient is different, and every surgery is different, too.

I hope someone's who has had a knee replacement answers, to give you some insight into their recovery. If your experience varies widely from "the norm", that's the sign to get re-evaluated by your surgeon, to make sure you don't have a complication. (I wonder whether your surgeon didn't realize that you would not have a home healthcare worker visiting, so he just wrote the standard post-op prescription after the surgery. He may have had the information in your chart, but forgotten momentarily.)
