Autoimmune disease
Jan 19, 2009
so I have Reynaud’s, psoriasis, and now lichen planus. I started feeling terrible in Sept./Nov. with fatigue, foggy brain, and skin rashes. I had various tests done which all came back normal except for an elevated level of strep antibodies (around 525?). I went on antibiotics and felt better for a bit and now have started feeling tired again, and like my brain doesn't function right. My skin rashes come and go......
I also have for as long as I can remember had swollen lymph nodes especially on the right side of my neck. Could my thyroid be underactive or overactive???

Hello mikmiah, As with many people who carry these mutated genes which predispose you to ever having an abnormal immune response (autoimmune response), you can, and in your case have more than one autoimmune disease.
(How distressing for you, autoimmune disease can certainly take its toll on a person, mine totally blinded me.) Strep infections can not only result in an immune response being mounted against it of course, it being an "invader", but in the mounting of it , these predisposing mutated genes can be triggered, resulting in that immune response being misdirected to self antigens. The pathogenic result of this abnormal immune response is the disease which manifests in you.
Often when there is inflammation etc resulting from this abnormal response, the lymph nodes swell in the neck. I often had it for a long time when my autoimmune disease flared. Just mention it at your next visit to your derm for reassurance. Hope this puts your mind at rest a little.
