Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Board Index

No matter what you do or don't do, most six week old babies are not going to sleep through the night. And by the way, the AAP considers sleeping through the night to be six hours straight at four months old. Some babies will, but most won't at this age. Their little tummies are just not big enough to hold enough food to keep them sleeping longer than about five to six hours at one stretch. I know its hard having to get up once or twice, or more during the night, but it will all end soon and will be like a blur. I would also not try to keep your baby awake during the day for any length of time. It tends to overstimulate them and makes night sleeping even worse.
