I agree with you Larsons--
we as adults do things when we are in a fussy mood for sure. on the other side of the coin, i have never been able to let #2 cry for long as well. with #1 he would cry for no more than 10 minutes and then be asleep, and it was more a fussy cry. with #2, he will shatter glass, but is comforted easily just by us rubbing his belly off to sleep. i think that when a baby reaches a certain point in crying, they become panicked and forgot whey they were crying in the first place. the panic takes over and no one likes to have a panic attack. then i think the baby associates bed time with anxiety and a vicious cycle is started. common sense is the key here. babies are human (obviously) take what you know as a person/what you would like and not like, and apply it as best you can to your baby. having structure, consistancy and a sense of safety are key in anyones sleep patterns IMO.
