The "What to Expect the First Year" book says to not give water because it can thin out their blood too much ('thin' is not the correct word...I forget the word they used...but you get the point of it).

Our Ped says it's okay to give water if you want...just an ounce or 2 maybe once or twice a day...and being careful as to not time it at a meal where it will make them full with water and not take in enough food/milk/formula. We breastfeed, so he said it's really not necessary for hydration of breastfeeding is going fine. I don't know about formula babies.

I've tried it a couple times & used standard bottled water...room temperature. She spits out the water like she hates the taste so I don't try regularly yet.
