Thanks for the reply! The doctor gave us the Ok to give him 1/2 oz of prune juice mixed with 1/2 oz of water or Karo syrup in his formula. She said using both can be somewhat of a double edged sword. She told us the prune juice will cause really bad gas pains, but on the other hand the Karo syrup will possibly get DS hooked on sugary sweet stuff. So, we tried the prune juice yesterday and he was in severe gas pains all day combined with uncontrollable screaming. Finally at 2 a.m. he fell asleep after DH massaged his stomach and he didn't wake up to feed until 8 a.m. today. Needless to say---I think he was exhausted from all day yesterday's and night's crying. The gas seems to be gone for now and he's back to normal---eating and sleeping. Also, we are using mylicon and gripe water--alternating in his formula---which seems to work well.

I don't think I will be doing the prune juice thing again-----though it did work wonders for making him pass stool----3 times yesterday----but made it miserable for him and everyone at home.

I will call and ask my pediatrician about the pear juice. Maybe it won't be as harsh in the gas department as prune juice. Do you use baby pear juice? Have you noticed any gas pains from the pear juice with your little bean?

Is she breastfed or formula fed? As the others say, if she isn't getting enough fluid in her she will have harder poops. My dd was like that when we transitioned from BF to formula.

The prune juice is a great idea as well as apple juice. put 5mls of juice into 50mls of cooled boiled water. Altho since your little one is sooooo little I would get the advice of your physician before adding anything to her diet. Her little insides might not be ready for anything other than BM or boiled water.

My dd is 7months old and I now stew dried prunes in water until they are pulp, then pass it through a seive. She LOVES the stewed prunes with baby custard!!!! Something to think about when you dd gets older.

Good luck
