Oh I meant how much milk, not breastmilk, sorry!
Oh, ha ha, sorry. I've heard not to exceed 20 ounces, but I don't know where that came from. I think if you are still offering breastmilk that it would be safe to start at a few ounces and slowly increase that. A lot of babies have sensitivities to cows milk at 12 months, and many moms find that their children don't take to it well until around 18 months. Which is fine. High fat foods like avocado and cheese are good if you think he is lacking in fat. And you could also add an oil, like flax seed oil. Egg yolks are good too.

Mothering magazine had an article about the health benefits of goats milk, I think in the last issue (I'm not too sure, but I saw the headline on their website). It was a very interesting read to say the least. DD is only 9 months old, so we're not quite there yet, but I think we're going to introduce goats milk before cows milk. We also have a history of milk intolerances, so I'm in no rush to start whole milk.

I think how much milk you want to give depends on how quickly you want your baby weaned. I think a slow introduction of whole milk and a slow decrease in feedings is best, emotionally and digestively.

I honestly have no clue how much whole milk a child should get because I've never planned on replacing breastmilk with cows milk. At least not at such a nutritionally critical age, you know what I mean?
I could never withold breastmilk from this guy even if I wanted to! He knows where it is and tries to "help himself"!
Awe, that's so sweet!! DD makes the milk sign (we do baby sign language), but I can't wait until she can ask for milkies vocally. LOL. My friends daughter, who is 2 and half, nurses her dollies and it is the CUTEST thing in the world. I can't wait to watch DD mother her dolls in the same way.

Good luck!!
