What to feed 8 1/2 month old?

I would like to know if it's ok to start feeding my 8 mnth old son things like spaghettios ( slightly blended ) and maybe soups, mashed up fruit? I like to start getting him used to eating more thicker foods rather then the super mooshy stage 2 jars but I don't want to pay 71 cents for just 1 jar of stage 3 either. But I have no idea on what to start on, can I have some advice on things that are ok to have, or what you were feeding your baby at his age? How about any finger foods that are safe ? Thanks
