Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Board Index

Since the first time I brought the baby out into public, a family wedding, he has been sick with one cold, ear infection and sinus infection after another. He just finished a round of antibiotics last week and seemed fine and exaclty one week later is showing signs of sinus infection again and also pulling on his ear and side of his face. I am going to call the doctor again on monday but I am very concerned. He has been on antibiotics 2x already and this is like the 6th time he's been sick since november. Yes he goes to daycare, I am a teacher and he goes to the school I work at. They only have 6 babies in the room at once and they keep things very clean. I absolutely have to work other wise I would stay home. What can I do? I am so worried aobut the little guy.
HI all

Thanks for the replies. I am going to call the doctor tomorrow. He does show signs of teething but no actual teeth. He has been showing signs for 2 months now. He puts everything in his mouth.

Also its not nice to try to make moms feel guilty for having to put their child in daycare. Were not all career women who want to support our keep up with the jones lifestyle. Most of us actually do have to work or the rent, utiltiies, car payment take up all the income leaving nothing for groceries, emergencies, diapers, etc. Think twice before you sit in judgement of others.

Also, in a daycare setting there are kids of all ages in the building and also other adults who my baby gets exposed to not just the sick kids in his room. Most of us parents are pretty good at keeping the kids home when sick, the problem is most of the time you are contagious before you even know your sick.

Don't some of you think I feel bad enough that I cannot afford to stay home with my baby without laying on the guilt trip? I have worked in daycare centers for 13 years and swore I would never put my child in daycare. I waited until I was in my 30s to have a baby. I lost my first baby to stillbirth. I stayed home with my son for the first 4 months. It is killing my husband and I that I had to return to work but you have to do what you need to to survive. To say maybe we shouldn't have had kids is pretty rude.

More replies from people who are in a similar situation as mine would be appreciated. I guess my biggest question is: Does there come a point when their immune system improves? How do you know when a cold is just that or if it is something more? Are there certain foods that can boost the immune system? He just started eating solids. Thanks again. . .
Thanks again for all your concern.

Baby had a rough night, sooo congested, mucus clogging throat I had to suction his throat which made him gag. I raised one side of his crib mattress. Today he couldn't drink the bottle, only an ounce here or there. . . He was so hungry and screaming yet couldn't drink. I called back the doctor who said the pain in his ears make it hard to suck. I gave him extra cereal today and really thinned it with lots of formula. He did eat 2-3 good meals so he is eating. Just not sucking. He hasn't sucked his Paci in days. . . should I take this opportunity to wean him from it? The doc said get tylenol cold and cough so I gave him that before bed. I am very worried about him and hope the antiobiotic works soon. Poor little guy.

Yes I am exhausted from dealing with a sick baby, I am so stressed. My husband helps me a lot, but tonight he is working very late. Yes I am taking my vitamins in good doses. Tomorrow am returning to work but will tell them if he won't eat and is screaming/crying to call me and I will take him home. I am right across the hall so I can check on him a lot.

I will keep you all posted. Thanks again for the advice.
