Nursing Strike?
Feb 24, 2008
My 4-month old DS has suddenly started refusing to nurse. It started with a low-grade fever Thursday night, then inconsolable crying Friday and Saturday and no appetite. He refused to eat from breast or bottle most of Saturday, but we were finally able to trick him into taking the bottle yesterday afternoon. He is still refusing to nurse. He acts like he really wants to, but then refuses to latch on and just cries. He has also developed a slight rash of tiny red bumps (pinprick size) all over his body.

I took him to the pediatrician on Friday and she could not an obvious cause. She said that it's most likely a virus that will have to run its course and that if he gets worse then we'll start doing some blood work and other tests. He seems much better today (no fever, no inconsolable crying), so I think that he's on the mend.

He still refuses to nurse though. I am pumping every three hours, but am very concerned about my supply.

Has anyone experienced this? How long did it last? Any advice?

Thanks.
