Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Board Index

The new standards for introducing solids is 6 months. Until then baby needs to only have breastmilk or formula. The most recent standard until now was 4 months so some may tell you this...your pediatrician can tell best if you can introduce solids before 6 months. The doc should also give you a list of foods baby can have when he's ready.

There's not much you can do at this age to encourage any kind of schedule. Your baby is still very young and his needs dictate his schedule. Babies this young will still wake and require feeding every 2-3 hours. Even during the night.

If you don't have the book What to Expect the First Year, I highly recommend it. It is a very helpful reference for what to expect throughout baby's first year.
