About a month after I went back to work, after the birth of our first child, he too started waking at night after having slept through since the age of seven weeks. I hate to suggest weaning because I know bf is so healthy for the baby and for you, but once I started him on formula full time (and cereal - he was five months old) he started sleeping through again. I just wasn't making enough milk anymore so he wasn't getting enough to eat. This sounds exactly like what you are dealing with right now. I totally do not agree with your doctor about not feeding the baby. It sounds like he is obviously hungry.
