... HI there. I am in the same boat you are and have discovered something WONDERFUL - white noise! My DS will be 4 weeks old and weeks 2-3 were hell for me. I just figured they never slept very well and were always fussy. I was told to get the DVD, "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and in it, the doctor talks about how white noise helps babies sleep. ... Yes, try the 5 S's. My dd was the same way in the very beginning. The only time she was quiet was when she was sleeping. She didn't have colic, she was just fussy. I found that running water really helped me. I'd just bring her to the kitchen and let the water run a bit. I know, not very $$ friendly, but I had to do what worked to sooth her. ... You could also try some mylicon drops before each feeding. Sleeping on the back is very painful also for babies, or anyone for that matter, with gas. Try him on his tummy for sleep if you are comfortable with it, propped on his side, upright in his carseat, swing or bouncy. I am almost certain you will notice a positive difference in the level of pain he seems to be in and... (5 replies)

... My dd was the same. I BFed exclusively but never cut anything completely from my diet. I used quite a bit of gripe water in those first few weeks and it seemed to help. Remember that your baby is not constipated, BF babies almost never are. The grunting and straining is usually due to their immature digestive systems. After a month or so things will sort themselves out. ... (5 replies)
