What a horrible experience to have to go through. I'm so sorry. A tubal pregnancy can last longer than 8 weeks, but as time goes on, it grows so much it can rupture. I've read about cases of 8+ weeks tubals that ended in rupture. I'm sorry to say but it sounds like your situation could have been avoided had your doctor have been more thorough and kept a close eye on you. I had a similar situation as you. I started spotting. My beta level wasn't doubling like it should so they watched it for over a week. All along they suspected maybe a tubal. Then my beta started dropping so they figured miscarriage like you. But they did a D&C right away because I hadn't actually miscarried it. Two days after the D&C, my beta went back up so it proved that the pregnancy was elsewhere because they had just taken everything out of my uterus. So they immidiately diagnosed a tubal and gave me the methotrexate that day. Had they have not been so thorough I may have ended up in your situation. You are very lucky. When they said you could have died, they meant it.

I hope this never happens to you again, but if it does, please stay on top of your doctors and make sure they monitor you very closely. A ruptured tubal can be avoided by the monitoring of a good doctor. Methotrexate is a much faster, less invasive way of dissolving it.

Best wishes to you. Again, I'm sorry for your loss and that you had to go through such an ordeal. Have you gotten pregnant again since the tubal?
