AF: Aunt Flow (your period).

BBT: Basal Body Temperature, also referred to as waking temperature. This is the temperature measured when you wake up in the morning after at least 3 hours of sleep, before you start to move around. Use a special BBT thermometer to take your temperature, because they measure the small changes in temperature from day to day more accurately than the regular fever thermometers.

BD: "Baby Dancing", baby making Intercourse. This abbreviation is commonly used by experienced charters.

CD: Cycle Day

CM or CF: Cervical Mucus also called Cervical Fluid. One of the most useful clues your body gives you for predicting your fertility.

Cover Line (CL): A visual tool used to separate the "low" temperatures (pre-ovulatory) from the "high" temperatures (post-ovulatory). A coverline is typically based on the temperatures 6 days prior to ovulation, when, for some women, their temperatures take a slight dip.

CP: Cervical Position. An optional but sometimes really useful fertility sign.

DH,DS,DD: Dear Husband,Dear Son, Dear Daughter

DPO: Days past ovulation. Number of days from your post-ovulatory temperature rise.

EDD: Estimated Due Date

EW or EWCM: "Egg White" cervical fluid. Your most fertile fluid, EW is typically clear, very slippery and abundant. Sometimes it is so elastic that a strand of EW will stretch or form a film 1" or more in length between your outstretched index finger and thumb.

FAM: Fertility Awareness Method. A method of trying to conceive and/or birth control, that correlates the physical changes you experience during your cycle to predict when you are most fertile. For those of you who have read the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility", the rules described in this book are a simplified version of Fertility Awareness rules.

HCG: Hormone detected by the home pregnancy tests. Litterally Human Chorionic Gonatropin.

HPT: Home Pregnancy Test.

IUI: Intra Uterine Insemination.

IVF: In Vitro Fertilization.

LH: Hormone detected by the Ovulation Predictor Kit (Luteinizing Hormone).

LOL: Laugh Out Loud

(LP) Luteal Phase: This phase of your cycle begins just after ovulation and continues for 10-18 days, ending with the start of your next period. This is the part of your cycle where your body continues to build up the lining of your uterus, and produce hormones which would support a pregnancy. During the luteal phase a fertilized egg can implant into the uterine lining.

M/C: Miscarriage

O: Ovulation, Ovulate

OPK: Ovulation Predictor Kit. This test detects the surge of Lutenizing Hormone (LH) which occurs 12 to 48 hours before ovulation. You can buy these tests at your drug store. They are quite expensive and not always accurate if you take medication (or depending on your age). It is optional with Fertility Friend if you check your CM and temperature accurately. If your fertility data is not clear, it can shed more light and help in difficult cases.

RE: Reproductive Endocrinologist - Fertility Specialist.

TTC: Trying To Conceive.
