Anyone on Provera?
Jun 21, 2011
Hi all,

I'm new to this forum. Due to my long cycles, my OB dr put me on Provera. Today is CD34. My DR told me to start taking them today for 10 days. I did have a US on June 10th and it had shown I already ovulated. My LMP was May 18th. I've been cramping, but no AF yet. My cycles range from 34-40+days. This is after coming off of BCP in December. We would like to start TTC.

I'm looking for ppl who have been on Provera and could provide me with some information.

How long do I have to take these meds? How will I know when to start them my next cycle, if need be? If I don't start a period by a certain amount of days, do I take more Provera? How will I know if I've ovulated? Sorry for all the questions, but this is new to me!!

If anyone has any information, please let me know!! Thanks :)

I also have long, irregular cycles. After I came off of bcp last year, I didn't have a period for about three months and went to the doctor. She did some blood tests for me that came back normal and put me on 10 days of Provera to induce my period (10 mg for 10 days). That helped and I started getting periods, but like I said, still very long and irregular.
For you, as you are planning on ttc, I would suggest temping your BBT and checking your cervical mucus to increase your chances of conceiving. This will tell you when/if you ovulate. Checking mucus will tell you when to have sex. You may have read up on it already, but basically fertile mucus will look like raw egg whites (sorry TMI), will be very stretchy and clear (before and during ovulation) That's when you have sex to get pregnant. You can also use OPKs.
I wouldn't advise you to take Provera whenever you want or think you should. Just ask the doctor for how long you should take it and what you should do if your period doesn't come. I got my period on the third day of the last pill, so it's usually effective. The doctor told me to come back if I still don't get my period.
You will know that you've ovulated when your BBT goes up. If you have other questions, please ask.
I've been through the same and know what it takes when you want to have a baby and your body just won't work that way it should. Ughh..
