Lasik Eye Surgery Message Board

| Hello everyone, this is my first time posting. Excited to hear from all of you. This might be a long post and I apologize for that.
I am a 21 year old full-time college student, will be turning 22 in early February. I had LASIK eye surgery on both eyes exactly one week ago. Words cannot describe how happy I am so far with the results. I was -5.00 in both eyes and on the day 1 post-op visit I was able to see 20/20 on the chart. For my one week post-op earlier today I was able to see 20/15! It's so nice being able to wake up every morning and seeing clearly without having to grab my glasses. I also love the fact that I can use sunglasses now! I started using glasses when I was in second grade which was back in 2002. I started using contact lenses in 2008. I was tired of wearing glasses and contacts always dried my eyes out so I was never comfortable with them on. For these reasons I desperately wanted to have LASIK eye surgery. Before my surgery last week, my prescription was stable for four years (-5.00) with the exception of the second year where one of my eyes actually got stronger by +.25. I guess after being so happy with these results I started anxiously thinking about the possibility that this can all go away for being stubborn and not waiting a couple years more. When i turned 20, I asked my optometrist about LASIK and she recommended that I waited until 23 to consider it. Well two months ago I thought it wouldn't hurt to have a free LASIK consultation which i ended up doing. I was told I was a great candidate for LASIK due to my eyes being healthy, having more than enough corneal thickness (603), and having a stable prescription. I was told during this consultation by an ophthalmologist that since I was on the younger side, there could be a chance that my results would regress and I would need an enhancement. I thought about it for a day and being stubborn that I am I chose not to wait a couple of years and decided to have it done now since I was tired of glasses and contact lenses. Starting to regret my decision as I'm worried about losing these results. I did pay for the Lifetime Enhancement plan which includes 2 year post-op care/visits and allows me to have one free enhancement if I need it as long as my eyes are healthy for it. Found different answers online that the age i should have waited for ranges from 23-25 and I'm kicking myself over it. I have my next post-op visit one month from now and I'm going to voice this concern and get more information about a possible enhancement. I know there are no guarantees at this stage that I'm in and there is nothing that I can do but just stay positive. I would like to know if there is anyone out there who had or knows anyone who had LASIK when they were 21/22 and still have the amazing results? Would also like any feedback on what I should do, expect, or ask at my next post-op visit?
Thanks in advance! |
