Lasik Eye Surgery Message Board

Lasik Eye Surgery Board Index

My vision was -10.25 in both eyes with slight astigmatism. It has been about 2 months since my surgery. I had PRK instead of Lasik. My vision is at least 20/20 if not better. It gets better everyday. Three weeks after surgery I was about 20/25. I still have trouble with haloing, ghosting, and starbursts at night. PRK has a longer recovery time. I need to give it at least 6 months to improve. I did not qualify for custom because my vision was so poor. I also have abnormally large pupils and thin corneas.
I had my procedure done in April of 2000. I was -8.75 in both eyes and
have had 20/15 vision in both eyes ever since. There was a question
initially whether I'd be an ideal candidate, since I have large pupils, but
the dr. felt I'd be happy with the result and so I went ahead with it and
couldn't be more pleased. I had no pain or discomfort at all, although I
did have a bit of ghosting and starbursting (streetlights and headlights -
not bad enough to make driving difficult) while my eyes healed. The only
thing I ever notice anymore is a slight bit of ghosting when I see stark
white text against a black background - such as credits rolling in a movie
theater, and it's just like a slight shadow and doesn't bother me in the
slightest. I am extremely squeamish and was so nervous to have this
surgery, but it's the best thing I've ever done and I would do it again
a thousand times over. Good luck to you!
I had my surgery in July 2001 and am overall very pleased. I was a -9.5 in one eye and -11.00 in the other. I won the "Worst Eyes Award" at the open house I went to for candidates of LASIK! (There were actually people there who were, like, a -2 and wanted the surgery! My glasses were heavy and ugly, no matter how much $$$ I paid for "ultra-thin" lenses.
Two words of caution, however:
1. I DID NOT have the "Oh-wow-I-can-see-EVERYTHING-now" moment that so many people claim to have immediately after LASIK. I sat up and basically saw everything the same way. I literally thought I would be sick right in the chair. I was so crushed, I couldn't even speak. But the vision does improve dramatically in the few hours following the surgery. Just don't expect that "magic moment" like so many people speak about.
2. I do have halos and ghosting (right eye), and recently I've been noticing some floaters in the same eye as well. But all in all, I'm glad I did it!
