Lasik Eye Surgery Message Board

Lasik Eye Surgery Board Index

I couldn't tell you what level my astigmatism was because, the only thing I really understood about my vision was that I was 20/40 in one eye and 20/60 in the other and that my astigmatism was my biggest vision problem. I don't think it was as high as yours. If I had to guess, I would say that it was somewhere in the 3's. But, I really can't remember. Anyway, I still have a hair line degree of it in one eye and a grain of sand of it in the other. Very small. But, I should warn you that my doc told me that, if I had any higher an astigmatism, he wouldn't have been able to do the surgery. However, my surgery was a year, 2 months and 1 day ago and, he told me back then that if I had gone to them 2 years previously (3 years ago to date), they wouldn't have been able to work on me because they didn't have the technology back then to correct astigmatism. So, in the past year, they may have come up with another laser that can work on higher degrees of astigmatism.
The only thing I would suggest is that you search around on the internet or call your local Better Business Bureau and see what you can find out about the doctor you have chosen. Ask him or her a ton of questions. Find out what his success verses problems are. Ask how many procedures he has done. Ask how many of those procedures have been people with an astigmatism as high as yours and what their success rate has been. Also, since most places will give you a free consultation to find out if you are a candidate or not, go get a couple of opinions. If you are worried that you may not be a candidate, another doctor may tell you that you aren't.

Do the research! It is very important!

Take care and let us know what you decide!
