I have heard that the close up vision gets worse with lasik and it's permanent. That's why I have not had lasik and don't think I would do it.
Close up vision is worse with glasses and contacts on too. Contracy to popular belief, Lasik is not curing or reversing your condition; it is like putting a permanent prescription in your eyes, except its not permanent; the positive effects of Lasik last for about 6-10 years as an optometrist once told me.

I'm wondering why your optometrist told you this since studies have been done on people who had Lasik 10+ years ago and they still see fine. Lasik is supposedly permanent, however most people have Lasik to correct their distance vision, and I know that I was told that when I get into my mid 40's I will most likely need reading glasses. This makes sense since they did not correct my vision up close since there is nothing wrong with it, and most people need glasses for close up vision when they get into their 40's and 50's anyway. I'm not sure where this 6 to 10 years thing is coming into play, since everything I have read and heard is completely the contrary.
