Lasik Eye Surgery Message Board

Lasik Eye Surgery Board Index

I went to a Lasik consultation on Friday and they told me I have dry eyes. They told me to take Restasis twice a day and Systance 4-6 times durng the day and then go back to see them in two weeks for another review. The place is a TLC laser center in Reston, VA. The doctor is Dr. Whitten and is the same doctor that Tiger Wood's and other professional athletes have used. I am definitely not concerned about the doctor or procedure, but now that I am reading about the dry eye side effects after surgery, I don't think the surgery is for me. Any suggestions from anyone? I never knew I had dry eyes until Friday, but it makes sense considering I have had trouble wearing my contacts for long periods of time because they dry my eyes out. Please offer any opinions, but right now I am thinking no. Although it is very tempting to think everything will be fine and to go ahead with the surgery.

I have spoken to people who have been given restasis/plugs before hand for dry eye and had lasik and they still have horrible dry eye a year on. Remember restasis only worked for 15% of dry eye patients in the study- there are many reasons why your eyes could be dry. restasis only really covers the lacrimal gland being inflammed. I know it is tempting but the risks are to high IMO. look up lasik and dry eye.

What's IMO?

Personally, I don't care about dry eye b/c I've had it for years. It's usually mild to moderate but sometimes severe. I'd rather have bad dry eye forever then deal with what I have to deal w/ now.
