Lasik vs PRK

In October I will be getting refractive eye surgery done. I'm in the US Army and my eye doctor has advised me that I am a candidate for either, my choice, but he recommends PRK. I know several people that have gotten the eye surgery recently and they all did PRK. Which one is better and why? I'm sure each have their pros and cons, I even asked the Dr. why he recommends PRK, and heard his response, but of course I'd like to dig deeper on the issue. I know a few years ago my Mom did Lasik and has not had any problems with it.
