Lasik Eye Surgery Message Board

Lasik Eye Surgery Board Index

Just this year my eyesight has deteriorated significantly. Only my distance vision has been affected. The change seems very sudden to me, so I'm wondering if it's something other than just normal nearsightedness.

I had Lasik for nearsightedness at a relatively young age (19,) so it would make sense for my vision to change. But what doesn't make sense to me is that my vision waited several years to change (I'm 25 now.) As I understand it, if my vision was going to change it would have been changing all along. Granted, it makes sense that someone might not notice their vision deteriorating gradually, but my vision has changed dramatically in the last few months. Also, I was under the impression that a twenty-five year-old's eyesight should be fairly stable. My prescription was stable at 19.

I also have been studying 16 hours a day all year, and I'm wondering if all those hours staring at books has caused it. Another thing I wonder about is my insomnia. I'm not sure that I've had a full night's sleep all year.

I'm going to have an eye exam, but I thought someone here might have some interesting thoughts. An optometrist might not recognize this as the onset of "excessive study induced blindness."

This is me several months from now when I'm completely blind:  (see he's got sunglasses . . . 'cause he's blind.)
