Lasik Eye Surgery Message Board

Lasik Eye Surgery Board Index

I had my eye surgery yesterday afternoon. I did mine at LasikPlus in Ohio. It cost me $3300 because my insurance paid 15% of it.

My vision was -4.25 in one eye and -4.50 in the other. I have to be honest, I freaked out when I got ready to go in. I took my Xanax and still was freaking out, but I'm a high anxiety person anyways. I'm prone to panic attacks. The procedure wasn't what scared me, it was the thought of having a panic attack that scared. But, they doctor and the nurses were extremely patient with me and let me go in when I was ready. When it came time to lay down, I had to leave the room for a minute. Luckily, my boyfriend reminded me of why I was there. I'd been wearing my glasses for the past 3 months because I couldn't wear my contacts anymore. I abused my eyes with contacts for years and they finally said, ENOUGH!

Once I got in there, it took about about 7 minutes. The first machine was the flap-maker (not the technical term...LOL). It was pretty cool. All I saw were tons of little lights, kind of how I imagine taking LSD would be like. I stayed extremely still because that's what I do when I'm freaked out. Then I had to stand up and walk to the other one. They all laughed at me because I held my head back as I walked to the other table and told them I didn't want to lose my flaps! Apparently that was impossible.

The second machine, the laser portion, was pretty cool too. It took 15 seconds on one eye and 17 seconds on my left eye. It almost smelled like when you go to the dentist and they're drilling your teeth. It didn't bother me at all. But, my left eye was a teeny bit sore when they were doing it, but it was in the corner of my eyelid not my eyeball...kinda like it was stretched open a bit too far.

I got up and walked out like I was looking through water. When the numbing wore off, I couldn't keep my eyes open. I immediately went and laid down and it felt like I had been peeling onions for an hour. I fell asleep for 2.5 hours and when I woke up, I could see much better and came out of the water. I used my drops as prescribed and wore those goofy glasses all night, even in the house. I have two dogs that jump on me a lot. I wasn't taking any chances. When I woke up this morning, I could see beautifully with no dry eye or pain at all. I have minimal blood vessel breakage in my left eye, but so far so good.

I'm leaving for my appointment in 10 minutes...DRIVING MYSELF! Pretty cool stuff, this lasik.

I am definitely recommending it!!
