Lasik Eye Surgery Board Index

One thing to keep in mind when contemplating lasik....contact lens wearers over time can develop issues and become intolerant to wearing them and I have heard quite a few folks who had lasik because of this and ended up with the dry eye syndrome.
I have pupil size in the 7mm range and I had custom wavefront done on 2-13-14. I have a little star bursting but it is getting better. I have slight astigmatism in my left eye but had it prior to lasik so I was not surprised there was still some there.
My Dr. told me pupil size is not so much a factor now as a lot of people have night issues and they fall within the ablation zone with small pupils so it really is all an individual basis whether or not you will have problems. You can make a list of all the things that could cause issues and then decide. If you have to many on the list below, don't do it.
Dry eyes (either contact intolerance or not)
Seeing floaters
Any eye disease or issues in the past
Do you do contact sports? (best not to do lasik in this case)
Do you stare at a computer all day for your job? (I do and had to decide if I wanted the issues like irritated eyes, fluctuating vision from up close to far away, etc.)
Can you live with it if you have to go back to glasses? Contacts may not be an option later on and Lasik on average lasts 6-10 years. Reading glasses will be needed after 40 in everyone.
Both eyes do not heal the same and may not turn out the same...Be prepared...

My vision is 20/20 in the right, 20/30 in the left now and every day is different. Mornings are good and it declines as the day goes on (read that bit about staring at a computer all day!). Halos and starbursting has declined but not gone away.
Fluorescent lights inside during the day have slight halos but it is getting better.
I had slight dry eye afterward and that is definitely getting better.
(I did not wear contacts or have dry eye before hand)
All this I expected as I read up on it a lot but everyone is different so you just never know.
I may still need an enhancement in the near future for this left eye but overall, I see great with my right eye. Enhancements can be bad too so find out if you have thick corneas. You may be a one time only lasik candidate with no recourse to fix less than desirable outcomes. I had thick enough cornea's that I may be a candidate but it is still early for me at 2 1/2 months post op to decide that yet.
Good luck in your decision!

Thank you deerhuntingal!

What's a custom wavefront "done on 2-13-14"?

What do you mean lasik lasts on average 6 to 10 years?
