[QUOTE=yoprice]+ :bouncing:

Hi everyone,

I posted the other day under blood disorders, but did not see a reply so I thought I would try this board. Here is my story,
I am a 47 year old female, dxd with Acute Refractory Rheumatoid Arthritis in Jan 2002. Recently, I was taken to the ER for feeling sick. I could not hold any food down for about a full week and I was severely dehydrated. My postassium level was only 2 when I was admitted. WBC was 3, hemogolobin was 7 and platelets were only 51. (in thousands)
Anyway, I spent 15 days in the hospital and was dxd with pneumo cystic (PCP) pneumonia. I ran a temp of 104 degrees for 4 days and it took a week to break the temp. While I was in the hopsital, they did a lymph node biopsy which was negative for lymphoma. But the Bone Marrow biopsy (ouch that hurts) came back with irregularities. They tell me my blast cells are at 12 percent.
When I left the hosp, my white count came back at 28!! Hemoglobin is holding its own at around 9 and Platelets shot through the roof to over 800.
They referred me to a hemotologist/oncologist. The dxd was Myelodyplastic Syndrome (dysplasia) MDS.
She told me that as the test results go, (even given the fact that all the pieces to the puzzle don't quite fit yet), I have about a 50/50 chance of contracting Acute Leukemia in the next 6 months. She said it can go either way at this point.
They are going to monitor my blood weekly for a while to see what happens with the counts.

I am interested to find others who have had this diagnosis and correspond with them. I am slightly frightened, but I want to stay positive the one of the 50's is really bigger than the other and I'll bet you can guess which one!!!

I would love to hear from others with MDS who can share stories and experiences, both good and not so good.

Take care,

I, too was just diagnosed with MDS and am trying to learn information from every source. I am 53, soon 54. How old are you? I am seeing a specialist in leukemia this week because the hemotologist thinks it will go into leukemia. I feel fine. The only reason I discovered this was because of an annual physical where my CBC came back low on whites. I take alot of vitamins and I'm thinking they are helping me feel OK. If you would like to correspond with me, I would like it. Thanks.
