Hereditary?

Is Leukemia Hereditary?

I posted this in a different thread, but was looking for help.
My grandmother had acute (something) Leukemia and passed away from it 13 yrs ago. She had symptoms of nosebleeds, itching, bruising etc.. Before she was diagnosed. I am looking for help and hope someone could tell me anything......... Maybe I am just being paranoid, because I tend to worry about EVERY LITTLE THING.

My mother has been having nosebleeds quite often over the last (I want to say 5 or 6 months).... It's only from her left nostril, and sometimes she get's it 2 times a day. She always feels tired lately, but I don't know if that has anything to do with the nose bleeds. She is the type that will not say anything to anyone if she is not feeling well,She does not want anyone to worry about her, and she has not told her DR about it. My father told me that she had dizzy spells yesterday. I was wondering if it could be her blood pressure. Everytime she goes to the DR she promises me she will tell him, but she does not. My father see's the same DR and mentioned it to him and he is going to check her over on her next visit. He said he can't come right out and tell her that he know's she is getting the nosebleeds, but will look her over. I was thinking about taking her to the DR myself and going in the office with her and telling him. (Aug 15th) is her appt...
Any ideas what this could be? I am so worried about her!
Thanks!

hi,

my son had Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia. I have studied any info I could find. Some info says that There can be a hereditary factor, some say no. It would appear from waht I have gathered that siblings have a 50% greater chance of getting it. Of course, articles vary. Leukemia is found on a certain chromosome, although I can't remeber whihc one. I want to say 17. Your Mom needs to see a Dr. I hope your Mom gets to the bottom of this.

Hi, my daughter is presently in treatment for Leukemia. She was diagnosed with ALL. She relapsed after treatment and is status post 6 months bone marrow transplant. There are so many things those symptoms could be. The doctor needs to do simple blood counts to see if further testing (bone scan or bone marrow aspiration) is even warranted. White counts, hemoglobin and platelets are effected with Leukemia. Were those tests done? They are really routine blood tests. Leukemia is not as of today considered hereditary. We have an uncle on one side that had it but thats it. It was like 20 years ago. Try not to be so worried if possible. Nose bleeds, even low platelets could even be from a virus. Good luck and I hope everything goes well.

According to most studies, Leukemia is not hereditary. Like my hubby's Dr. told him "Congratulations, you won the lottery". If you get it, you get it but by no means is thid hereditary. Tell your Mom she has to talk to her Dr.
