If anyone could give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. I am very scared and worried.
This is my situation. My WBC count has been high for the last year. I have had various blood tests to keep track of my WBC. Through these tests, I have learned that it varies around 14.8 through 16.0. My doctor stated that this is high and that since a substantial amount of time has gone by that a further investigation is necessary. My doctor suggested I have another CBC with differential, sed rate and a flow cytometry. I am very scared because I know I am not myself. I haven't been for a long time. Through the last year, I have felt achy and at times very stiff. I have ignored it for the most part but you know in your mind when you are just not your self and that something is wrong. I have felt this for the past couple of months but tried to ignore it. Now my question is this. With these symptoms and my doctor suggesting these tests, is it possible that he is looking for leukemia? If so, do these symptoms and test results indicate possible leukemia. Any info would be apprieciated. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Thanks
Your doctor is trying to rule out leukemia and lymphoma and a slew of other prospective problems. I know it is very difficult, but try not to get ahead of yourself. As of right now, you do not have any disease until you are diagnosed. Try not to overwhelm yourself by imagining things that haven't happened yet. If, God forbid, there is a disease, there will be plenty of time to worry. There are many medications that can affect your counts and studies have shown a higher WBC count to be associated with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and diabetes and that the WBC count is a reasonable marker of inflammation (infection). So, there are lesser diseases that you can be looking at, something easy to fix (stopping or changing a medication) or just a fluke. Hope this helps....
