Hi, I am trying to make sense of my niece's diagnosis and treatment for childhood leukemia. I was told that she has a zero white blood cell count (going through very heavy chemo at the 4 month mark of the disease) yet she is at home with family and dogs, albeit isolated in her room with parental access only. Shouldn't this child be in the hospital? Friends tell me that when the WBC count goes to zero, you are isolated in a "sterile" hospital room and that visitors are limited to 15 minute stays and must wear protective clothing during that visit. I amworried about this little girl but don't know what is normal and what isn't when treating leukemia.
