... I am normally on the Anemia board, but my Hemotologist informed me Monday that he wants to do a bone marrow biopsy to rule out Leukemia. Here are my latest bloodwork results: WBC-9.9 Normal 4.1-10.9 LYM-2.8 Normal 0.6-4.1 MID-0.8 Normal 0.0-1.8 GRAN-6.3 Normal 2.0-7.8 RBC-4.74 Normal 4.20-6.30 HGB-10.3 Normal 12.0-18.0 HCT-31.3 Normal 37.0-51.0 MCV-65.9... ... Those values by themselves do not indicate Leukemia. It does indicate infection of some kind. Perhaps the doctors think that you have an infection in your blood stream that is resistant to the usual antibiotic. The MPV stands for Mean Platelet Volume. If that is high then it means that there may be something going on in your body that indicates to your body that it is in... (2 replies)

... The tear drop cells are abnormal shaped red blood cells. They are usually supposed to be round in order to look normal on a peripheral blood exam. The pathology department will look under higher power microscopes to see if there has been any permanent change to the red blood cell shape which is basically the bone marrow creating abnormal shaped cells due to change in the DNA.... Sorrry to hear your feeling so unwell i dont know if this is of any use but i have had Hb of 10.3 and low ferritin levels of 2.8 i do not however have any long lasting fever, i do have a few red petechaie on my chest. my doctors surgey is organising thyroid test for me. some gain or loss of weight along with other symptoms can indicate thyroid probs You definitely are... ... Sometimes it's not "how many" cells you have, but what they look like under the microscope. Did they see any "atypical" meaning, not normal looking cells? Your CBC seems pretty normal, number wise, minus the lower hemoglobin. I would ask your doctor what is exactly is indicating the need for a BMB. (4 replies)

... Thanks...that's good information to know...especially since I recently had surgery!!! And I might be having surgery again before the end of June. I don't think I can just wait around 3 weeks for this though!!! I've been so fatigued and feeling under the weather and I want to be well for the surgery. ... and ended up doing every test imaginable on her..They ended up finding out that she's anemic and is not producing blood..apparently her bloodwork came back inconclusive, so they did a biopsy of her bone marrow yesterday..we are waiting on pins and needles for the results.. ... (1 replies)
... CBC results? This is my first day on this board. I was Dx with Chronic Lymphocitic Leukemia back in 2001. For the first five years after Dx my hematologist mainly checked the bloodwork, poked my lymph nodes, spleen and pumped me for gardening tips. (4 replies)
