... ur soul and there is nothing you can do about it except hang in there, and live through it. I wish I had more insight. When they started Bud's chemo, he was on Gemzar and Carboplatin. That put him in remission for 28 days. When it came back, they put him on Tarceva. But that did not work at all for him. ... (12 replies)
... I'm new here. Stumbled on to the site and thought I'd give my 2 cents. I was diagnosed this time last year with stage 3B NSCLC. It's an adenocarcinoma. I have a couple of tumors and a lot of spreading in the lungs. If you looked at my PET scan, instead of the usual distinct tumor, it was spread out as if someone had spray-painted on the resulting pictures. That meant... (1 replies)

... s to her liver. We knew within days that it was working as all her breathing trouble vanished and she felt better then she had in years. She had it after she had Carboplatin and Taxol. While in the end it did not save her life it did give her quality of life back until this last line of chemo wiped her out. ... (5 replies)

... Hello, I posted a while back my 62 yr old Ma was diagnoised with Adenocarcinoma on 10Aug. The past few weeks have been utter hell and we haven't even started chemo yet! I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences of My Mum's bad luck with this evil fluid the cancer produces First My Ma had: 1. fluid removed from under lungs ( Pleural effusion) (was 5 litres I think)... ... My mom is currently on Taxotere and Gemzar and she has not had to take any pain meds or anti nausea meds with it but did with her 1st line chemo Carboplatin and Taxol. The biggest problem she has had has been fatigue that starts about 48 hrs after the chemo and peaks in the next 48 hrs. ... (5 replies)
... Jan, I too had hoped that you and Bud were away having fun on a camping trip. I hope what you are seeing as changes in Bud are just from the chemo as Carboplatin can wipe you out and gemzar wipes out blood counts which then leaves you exhausted. ... (6 replies)
... Dear Kim, been thinking hard about Stan and wondering how he has been doing and dealing with the heat. I have been following the heat wave on the news. Bud is on Carboplatin/Gemzar/Avastin. When I say slipping, he is coughing a lot again, real tired, lots of chest pain. THat had subsided for a couple of months.....maybe he tries to do too much and this heat, oh my... (6 replies)

... Well cyber-family, we got the results from the last CT. The cancer keeps on growing, just about taken over the left lung, inside and out. Now more lymph nodes are enlarged and the doctor was truthful, there is almost certain that there is malignancy in the nodes now (because of their size and number). He is off of the Alimta and goig back to the first set of chemo they had... (12 replies)

... Let's see...the first line of chemo was Carboplatin and Gemzar (which did a great job at shrinking things and putting him into temporary remission) from May to Sep 05. The second line chemo was Tarceva Oct-Nov 05. This did not work for him, but others here have done well with it. The third line chemo was Nevalbine and Taxotere Dec-Mar 06. This he just completed two weeks... (1 replies)

... Jan, I read your last two posts so decided to comment on Alimta. When my mom started it she was given a choice the Alimta or Taxotere. From everything I could find the Alimta seemed like the lesser of two evils as it seems to be more targeted in the way it works and the added big bonus was it does not usually cause hair loss. The no hair loss sold my mom on it right... (1 replies)

... Hi,Sorry to hear about your dad. Do you know which type of cancer it is? Non small cell or small cell? My mom has stage IV NSCLC with liver mets and back in 2004 she had taxol and carboplatin every 3 weeks , I recall it took 3-4 hours for her to get it. If I was you I would look into cyberknife as now they are able to do tumors in lungs and in the liver and other places... (6 replies)

... When I first read your post I got so emotional that I could not respond to it. I really hear you and know where you are coming from. I think too many of us on this board are at about the same place as you are in our journeys with lung cancer.Sadly, that is nearing the end. Like you it is with my mom and though her lung tumor is gone those nastey liver mets have been... (2 replies)
... as not an option because there were way too many mets to the pleura that's when he went to stage 3B. So chemo was it for him. His only line of defense.
