Re: Severe Itching

Hi Donte,

I get severe itching! It is so insane and I hate it. It can be from the Lupus itself, sometimes we are more "allergic" and the skin can be affected. Other times it can be from medications.. the best thing to do is ask your doctor because they will have a better idea of what meds you are on etc. Take care!

Severe itching here to the point of welts and drawing blood. and the more you scratch, the more it spreads. I am not on any meds for my lupus, so I can safely assume it's from the lupus itself. Try Sarna cream, it's OTC, seems to take the edge off. If not, ice water seems to do the trick. Shari

Thank you for your replies. Unfortunately, the doctors don't have an answer for me either. They say it could be lupus or it could be meds, but all they can do is try to relieve it. Dermatologist prescribed Clarinex because all of the creams made it more intense. The Clarinex helps and is fast acting for a pill, but still curious what brings it on. I will try the Sarna cream too.

[SIZE=4][SIZE=5][SIZE=1][COLOR=Blue][SIZE=4][FONT=Comic Sans MS]Severe itching was my first sign of Lupus...20 YEARS before being diagnosed! They called it polymorphic light eruption. You can find a lot of research info on it online. It happens to me with uva light as well as uvb and also under most flourescent lights. My doctors have me take larger doses of benedryl to ease the discomfort while I wait for an injection to stop the itching. It's miserable, I know. Good Luck! I didn't know itching was a part of lupus. I was dx'd with lupus just last year and I've been suffering miserably for years with the itching. I'll do a search and see what that polymorphic light eruption is. I can't take Bedadryl (or any other antihistamine) as they cause grand mal seizures in me. A bucket of ice water usually brings some relief. Thanks for the info.

Hi everyone, mine don't really itch but is more tingly and burns. I use aloe gel, boy it really helps me. Mine is mostly on my legs if I've been on my feet and or if I get to hot. I also have alot of reactions from meds, which most of the lupus people I know do. I have to be careful what I put on it or oh man!!! It really will be on fire. Good luck with the itchie's everyone.
