Lupus In Children?
Jul 1, 2004

My daughter is 9 years old (10 at the end of the month). She has experienced fatigue, loss of appetite, rashes (one of which came on after sun exposure), a rash on her face that is sometimes very faint other times I can really see it. She has joint pain (yesterday it was her hips). And she also has at times abdominal pain with difficulty swallowing as well as pain in her left side.

So anyway after months of doctor visits (they keep saying she has MONO) and 5 negative mono test when we went to the doctor yesterday with the hip pain he said that her last bloodwork showed her ANA level was 1:80 which was borderline. He said that we should "aggressively" try to find out whats going on and is refering us to a pediatric Reumatologist (sp).

What should I expect to happen at the Ped. Reum.? What sort of info should I arm myself with? Is an ANA level of 1:80 something to worry about?

Also- In my opinion all of these symptoms have been a slow progression since April 2003 when I took her in for swollen lymph nodes. At that time the only flags in her blood work were MO- 10.7 (high) and Mean Platelet Value 6.9 (Low).

Any suggestions would be most appreciated,
