You asked about Herpes simplex 1, ie 'fever blisters'. I've had oral herpes for lo' these 40+ years, and they are almost always preceeded by a fever or time spent in the sun. I've had a *lot* more breakouts since the lupus -- I don't think they are "caused" by lupus, it's just that any little lupus activity raises my body temperature 2-3 degrees, that that's enough to kick off a round of fever blisters. So now I take Voltrex daily to control the herpes...

With fever blisters you can feel an itchyness or tingling before the actual blisters occur - they *are actual blisters that form in groups, once the blisters occur there is a lot of tingling/pain involved for 1-2 days, then they scab over & start healing.

I've had other kinds of mouth & nose ulcers since getting lupus, these the rhumy has looked at and declared that they are lupus realted. I have never had any pain with these (just if one in the mouth opens and I eat citrus!) I haven't been able to assicate them with any other symptom(s).
