Hiya baybreeze,

I haven't been on for a while, and I just caught sight of your post which interested me as I too sufer with hives.

It is estimated that about 10% of lupus patients at some point in their illness will develop hives/urticaria. Most of the pateients who do have deficiences in certain blood complement components. Maybe you could read up on this and go into more detail for yourself. Normally though most cases of hives/urticaria are definitely related to allergic reactions, but if as you say you don't have anything like allergies to bring this on, you might be in the 10% bracket. This obviously can only be confirmed by your doctor.

The thing is though, the enormous swellings you describe really do need to be looked at. These sound quite serious and not the "normal" pattern of any type of hives that I personally have had or know of.

The way "lupus urticaria" is normally treated is with antihistamines and someitmes in more severe cases, steroids. As I said only your doctor can mke a definite diagnosis though.

Hope this helps. Take care/.
