I too have lupus, and used to get terrible sinus congestion, with thick globs of post nasal mucus that would get stuck in my throat and make me gag repeatedly and sometimes vomit. It sounds a little different than your issue, but here's the connections I know of. Many lupus patients have significant allergies, that lead to sinus and other respiratory infections. Those can trigger asthma type reactions (wheezing), cough, shortness of breath, etc. If you have Sjogren's too, the dryness in respiratory tract makes the mucus dry and sticky, hard to drain. I found when I had mucus stuck in throat, if I used a saline rinse right away, it helped wash it down. Sounds gross, I know, but it is awful when it happens. I would try to keep allergies under control, treat any infections right away, keep the inhaler on hand always. I don't know if upping the MTX dose would help, but it is an immunosupressant, so would suppress the allergic response perhaps, but might make you more prone to infection. Possibly a wash in effects. Guaifenisin thins and liquefies mucus when you do get an infection and will help sinuses drain easier.
