... my blood test showed anti-double stranded anti-DNA level of 2, what does that mean (2 replies)
... I'm Confused As To What This Blood Test Is For. I Was Recently Switched To A Woman Rheumy In The Same Hospital, And I Saw Her Yesterday. I Have A Very Big Folder, And Was Diagnosed 1997. ... (6 replies)
... Hi. Why not get a copy from your GP of the labs that showed high DNA? Then start a personal file, and maintain it at least while going thru the evaluation process. Then you'd know which kind* of DNA, the value + hopefully the reference range to make sense of the value. (* BTW, anti-double-stranded-DNA is redolent of systemic lupus, whereas anti-single-stranded-DNA suggests... (6 replies)

... Yes , it was the results by crithidia ifa testing. The only other abnormal was the high RNP and Ana of 1:160 speckled pattern over the year. I did have a skin biopsy which showed maybe indication of lupus. Like I said the rheumy just said udct even with the high RNP, but now said probably lupus. So Vee, would a 1:320 dna ds ab like really high when the normal is below 1:10?... (5 replies)
... Hi. I didn't quite follow your first sentence. Were those the findings for anti-ds-DNA (anti-double-stranded DNA) on a "Crithidia immunofluorescence test"? Crithidia may be an older test with substantial pitfalls; ELISA may be more common today....? (I'm not knowledgeable on the various generations of these tests, so I hope others who know more will comment.) Was anti-RNP... (5 replies)
... I am in NO WAY an expert but I know that anti ds dna is ONE of the tests used to diagnosis Lupus. ... (2 replies)
... DNA is a specific antibody test for lupus activity. Anything under 30 is considered negative. Yours is at 20. Mine happens to be 160 right now. ... (7 replies)
... Melissa, very *high* anti-ds-DNA points strongly to lupus, but *slight* elevations are possible in some other conditions. In fact, a very high finding would fulfill one of the 11 ACR criteria. But without the reference range, it's impossible to tell how high yours is; so when you discuss your findings with your doctor, you should ask for the range & ask how high he/she deems... (5 replies)
... and my Anti DS DNA result was positive, no number was listed. ... (3 replies)
... Destiny, hi. Your first question: I think there are two different measuring systems for ANA. (1) The first is a simple ratio, like the 1:40 you mentioned. I *think* some experts consider 1:30 (and above) to be high. (2) In the second measuring system, the number doubles for each dilution. Examples: 1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, 1:1280, etc. I *think* some experts... (3 replies)
... On my last bloodwork, the results were back to my doctor's office within a week. On my lab work, the normal reading for anti-DS-DNA was 0-4 and mine came back at 47. Good luck with everything and let us know how your results turn out. Tricia (3 replies)
... Does anyone know what the titer means for this test?? My test came back positive, and the titer was 1:20. I don't know if the titer number makes a difference like it does for ANA or not. (7 replies)

... Hi All, I went to my app. today thinking I had already been diag. with Lupus. Doc said my AnA went from a 160 to 320 , he said it was very high but my other blood work was normal. He said I still might not have Lupus. My symptoms are: fatique, weakness, headaches, dizziness, nausea, joint pain, daily low grade fever, facial rash, hand rash both are very sensitive in sun... ... Thanks for your answers. That was one blood test I wasn't sure about. ... (4 replies)
... Thanks for your response Shari. I have a rheumy appointment next week and I guess he'll decide when he wants to run another test. I'm feeling pretty awful now though. My PCP put me on Celebrex for the pain and swelling in my hands, but it has only helped minimally. It is especially bad at night when my right hand gets very numb and painful and keeps waking me up. I'm... (7 replies)
... Sounds like it might be a low positive. I was at that point just 6 months ago, and now I'm flaring like crazy. It can vary from month to month. If you're symptoms increase, have them redo this test. You're body will let you know when it's time, trust me! Take care. (7 replies)
... Thanks, but I don't understand because it said on the blood test report that it was positive and then gave the titer. Also, my Dr. told me it was positive. Anyone have any ideas about this? ... (7 replies)

Late Onset Lupus
Jul 6, 2016
... Hi & welcome! Lupus actually has a very wide age continuum, and even things deemed "rare" can happen. I myself was dx'ed in late 40's with a "rare" subset in which my ANA was negative but anti-Ro was positive. I'd had problems since adolescence, with new ones appearing each decade, then photosensitive rashes beginning 8 years prior to dx. So my best guess is that I had... (10 replies)
... Hi. I'm afraid what I make of all this is questions, but maybe some of the following will help you line up more ducks before your next rheumatology appt. You could ask rheumatologist to comment on CRP: which conditions does it reliably predict? (Think RA is one, but maybe lupus too? Not sure, sorry.) Did you see other "subtype" tests, in addition to anti-ds-DNA? ... (2 replies)
