... First let me say that steriods are not the 1st choice in medicines, the Plaquinyl is the 1st choice. It will take a few weeks of taking it as prescribed for you to feel better. ... (8 replies)
Plaquenil

... ye damage in the long term but only in those who didn't have their eyes checked. That damage was reversible when caught early, and most doctors still tell their Plaquinyl patients to see their eye doctors regularly just to be safe. ... (15 replies)
... Hi - Sorry about your sister's eye troubles. When my rheumatologist started me on Plaquinyl 5 years ago, he stressed that I must have my eyes checked by an opthalmologist (MD eye doctor) before starting the medicine and every 6 months while taking it. The damage is reversable when caught early and that's the reason for the frequent eye check-ups. I'm no doctor and don't... (4 replies)

... Hope your doctor told you to have your eyes checked by an opthalmologist now as you start Plaquinyl and every 6 months while on it. Plaquinyl does wonders for lupus, but can do great harm to your eyes that cannot be detected except by an eye exam. This is important. ... (6 replies)
Lupus symptoms
Jun 3, 2006
... Hi, I am new to this message board but I just had a blood test done since I had very high fever of 104.3. My white count was very high and I was put on steroids, plaquinyl and another immunosupressive drug. I had grandular casts in the urine test and a few blood cast cells. My Dr. will test me again in 2 weeks. ... (5 replies)
... I, too, wonder if Methotrexate isn't jumping the gun. I started on Plaquinyl and Naprosyn twice a day and did okay for a few years. 1st problem was an allergic reaction to Celebrex which I was on for 3 weeks before the Naprosyn. ... (6 replies)

... Hi - Sorry you're having such a bad time, especially at your age. I've had a slight scaliness around my nose, but washing with Pond's "All Day" and then applying lotion has helped. You've mentioned you're on Plaquinyl. Are you also taking Celebrex by any chance? I ask because all of my lupus symptoms ( rash on arms, and joint pain and swelling) suddenly worsened... (8 replies)
... I was dxed with lupus 5 years ago and have been taking Plaquinyl for most of that time. Yes, it helps with the fatigue, because it makes flares rare. ... (16 replies)
... Hi, I have SLE, too, and was dxed 5 years ago. My initial symptom that could be seen was a rash on both forearms that mulitplied (never went above my elbows), were roundish with raised edges, and no itching. I had been tired for 2 years. My rheumie said sun avoidance was essential. I could walk from a building to my car, have a 1 hour picnic in the deep shade of trees,... (12 replies)
... Hi, I was dxed with SLE about 5 years ago after all sorts of symptoms, high ANA and sed rate. I'm allergic to Celebrex and am taking Plaquinyl and Naprosyn (never on an empty stomach). Problem is that I have "bathroom days". 3 years ago they occurred just twice in a year, then increased in frequency to almost once a week. I have since quit work, but still experience... (10 replies)
A Lupus Question?
Jun 11, 2003
... Hi, I am 52 and was diagnosed with lupus 4 years ago. My ANA was 600. My doctor told me that I had a 98% chance of living a normal life span if I took a few precautions: avoid being in sunlight much, get adequate rest, take prescribed medicines. He said the most common long term effect of lupus is arthritis. He told me that I must have my eyes check by an opthomologist... (5 replies)
... Hi, Rivera, I had symptoms similar to yours, but the rash and intense joint pain was over just a 3 week time period. I'd had fatigue and slow hair loss for more than a year. The red rash with raised edges was on my forearms, backs of my hands and my fingers and it did not itch. The 1st doctor I saw put me on Celebrex and all my symptoms intensified dramatically and I...
