... ANA. Alone, ANA isn't diagnostic, alas, because it elevates in multiple diseases, or due to a passing virus, or sometimes due to a family tendency. ... (7 replies)

... speckled pattern. I was on plaquenil and prednisone, and my last ANA was also negative. I am convinced it is from the medicine. My Dr. also sais it usually does not turn negative. ... (5 replies)

... Hi Jamusa, I have a lot of different symptoms, but have been diagnosed thus far as connective tissue disease and not lupus.(Ra and lupus are definitly a possibility) My ANA was as high as 1:1280, and since I have started plaquenil and been on prednisone, my last bloodwork also came back with a negative ANA. I too was puzzled, and my Rheumy said that this is not usually the... (13 replies)

... sorry for posting again but all my tests are back. last batch of tests were all fine (last august) apart from ana. ... but also my ANCA was weakly positive...this is a new one to me. And googling doesn't really help, it all sounds complicated. I've been told me ANA is coincidence but I don't think my ANCA is...not according to what I'm reading. But this isn't usually a lupus indicator is it? ... (7 replies)

ANCA positive?

... angryt, like you, I'd think that an ANA of 1:1280 seems too high to be "post-viral". One of my lupus hardcovers says that the specificity of ANCA to lupus is considered "poor". The author says ANCA is more likely a flag for what he calls "non-lupus vasculitis". He then he names two kinds: Wegener's granulomatosis (c-ANCA subset) and microscopic polyangiitis (p-ANCA subset). ... (7 replies)
... Oh, and according to the sticky on this thread about diagnosing criteria, I have ONE of the 11: arthralgia. According to the testing criteria, I tested positive for ONE of the Lupus criteria: high ANA. How then could my doc say I have Lupus? (3 replies)
... s high and speckled as yours but not to the extreme of your number. The Rheumatologist did a vast array of tests that included some immune studies of which I was positive for IGG and IGM which was indicative of lupus, although I am not the typical lupus case. ... (6 replies)
... them a whole lot of thought, but in the right light a few weeks ago, I spotted what may be another one starting. I decided I had better see my dr. He ordered an ANA test which came back positive. nucleolar. He also did all the normal blood work which came back great. ... (5 replies)

... Star Stacey, this could be like getting a second opinion when you get new rheum, but in meantime, placquenil is only step one treatment and you apparently need something stronger to treat your illness. I think treatment is more important than the name they give it and at the lower levels, the drugs are the same. I disagree that a low see rate means disease is not active. Some... (17 replies)
... Hi, all, Had a disappointing day. I received a call from my rheumatologist to tell that he will be leaving the Health Board that I attend here in the UK. So I will be getting a new rheumatologist. I know that could work in my favour too, but I can't help but feel that things are not going to get any better. Still things are not good. I feel no improvement whatsoever. ... (17 replies)
