... Hi, welcome! I'm just a patient, but here's how I understand some of the *possible* meanings of these tests. But first, labs alone never diagnose lupus. Instead, 11 criteria are used, and you may find these with the "sticky posts" (permanent info posts) located above the user threads. You generally (but not always) must meet 4 or more of the 11 to sustain a diagnosis of SLE.... (1 replies)

... Lisa, hello & welcome. I'm sorry you've been struggling with all this. (Also sorry for not writing sooner, I had a wicked bad month with my computer.) Best place to start is one of the "sticky posts"; those are the permanent info posts located about the user threads. Look at the one with diagnostic criteria. Generally, but NOT always, a patient must meet 4 or more to sustain a... (15 replies)

... Hi. This appt. seems to me to make much more sense, at last! I think very often a GP runs an ANA & stops right there. Because ANA is a general test (it may be positive in multiple conditions), if it comes back high, next the rheum runs it again, also adding tests for "ANA subtypes" (the ENA you mention). The ANA subtypes (such as anti-ds-DNA, anti-Sm, anti-Ro, anti-La,... (73 replies)
... Hi everyone, I am new to this site and have recently been diagnosed with a mild case of Lupus. A bit of background about myself. I am 31 and have been trying to conceive for the past couple of years. After 2 miscarriages (Chemical Pregnancy and Ectopic Pregnancy), my hubby and I moved on to IVF. Our first cycle failed after which my Fertility Specialist ordered... (0 replies)

... StarStacey, to re-orient myself, I just reread the entire thread. Your labs that really stand out to me are positive anti-Ro and ANA of 1:1280; and of your symptoms, mouth sores. (Your rashes I wasn't sure I could picture, NOT that I'm anything but a dumb patient anyway!) Last I knew, you said your dr. was viewing you as having, at this juncture, UCTD (undifferentiated... ... ljs - I hope you get your answer soon. I have MCTD; Lupus/Rheumatoid/Raynauds and Sjogrens. My ANA was tested several times, each time coming in at 1/10240. Just a tad high, lol. The process of testing and not knowing and finding a cocktail of drugs to help isn't fun. I'm on Presnisone, 10 mg, MTX, 20 mg and Nefedipin, 60 mg. I'm still swollen, still stiff, still tired... ... Hi & welcome. I'm only a patient, but I too believe your ANA's aren't normal & are unlikely to be false-positive at those levels. (This is true for women, as well, btw.) Did the rheum suggest follow-up monitoring or any additional tests? Did you get copies of all your labs? In my (tiny) mind, even though you may not have met the diagnostic criteria yet for any particular... (3 replies)
