... Lisa, the chest rash is sometimes called the "shawl" sign, because it looks like you were sunning with a shawl on. I would make sure your ANA is repeated since it was positive once in past, and to be sure your meds aren't a factor and to rule out drug induced lupus, you might want to ask for an anti-histone and anti-ssDNA, along with anti-dsDNA and anti-Smith antibodies. Those... (8 replies)
... Hello and welcome to the boards. You do have symptoms suggestive of possible lupus, with facial rash, rash after sun exposure joint pain, fatigue, and many with lupus are also B12 deficient. Your ANA test being borderline (do you know the titer or ratio it was?) would indicate it is reasonable to retest it plus do some other tests related to lupus. Lupus causes inflammation,... ... Thank you so much Ladybud! Your words have really helped ease my mind. And your absolutely right the criteria add up. I'm just really trying to wrap my head around it all & I think I'm in denial. But like you said even if the tests are neg the criteria is there. These words have helped me just accept what it is & just do my best to take care of myself. I will definitely be on... (76 replies)

... Good morning, just thought I'd chime in here. I think your Dr. is putting together the kidney symptoms, positive ANA, pleurisy, oral ulcers, sun sensitivity, arthralgias, anemia and as a whole, saying you meet the criteria for lupus. ... (76 replies)
... Hi all, I've been on a many year journey to get some form of diagnosis. Symptoms are multi joint pain (no swelling), calf pain, muscle fasciculations, and unbelieveable amounts of fatigue (can sleep 16+ hours/day) and brain fog. Went to plenty of local doctors and even to the Cleveland Clinic a few times. At first locally they diagnosed me with narcolepsy, later... (7 replies)
... Hi Veej. I am going to my 3rd rhuemy in December because I was not crazy about the first 2 I saw. One told me lupus, then not lupus, then lupus again and the 2nd one could have been my older son diagnosing me. I need to find a really good one instead of being referred to someone. My ANA was positive 1st time 1:80 2nd time 1:160 and RNP's 7.2 then 8.0> So it looks like the... (17 replies)

Hi i have been having investigations for over 12 months, have severe muscle pains all down legs, hips, very bad joint pains in knees, fingers, toes and elbows, stage 2 kidney disease, pernicious anaemia, high level fatigue even the simplest of chores tires me out. First they treated me for polymyalgia, then said it might be fibromyalgia, and today the hospital phoned to say... (3 replies)
... Could be wrong, but as far as I know, the ANA is either negative or positive, and shows the titer, like mine is 1:640. The only thing I could think your results would be showing 10.8Hf to, would be an autoantibody/antigen to the ANA, like anti-dsDNA or anti-RNP, or such. (10 replies)
Help Needed

... I have a very strong family history of Lupus, a couple of years ago when I was losing my hair I had an ANA done and it came back very positive. About 6-7 months ago I did have the butterfly rash but with all of my son's medical problems I just didn't have time for myself. I finally made a follow up with the rheumatologist because I am super stiff in the morning and I twisted... (3 replies)

What's next?
Nov 12, 2008
... It may be that your doctor is doing more tests (maybe repeating some, maybe doing some new ones too) so he can have more definitive answers for you at your next appointment. I was diagnosed with lupus 15 years ago and had ANA of 1:2560, low C3, C4 complements, + double stranded DNA, and both lupus anticoagulant and antiphospholipid antibodies. Like Vee mentioned, I was told... (4 replies)

... First my ANA was 1:320 homogeneous, +DSDNA, polyarthralgias, sun sensitivity, fatigue and raynauds. Now the rheumatologist says the lupus anticoagulant was positive - he did start me on prednisone 40 mg for two weeks, 30mg x2w then 20mg - he repeated blood work again today - next appointment is in 5 weeks. Today's dx was unexpalined autoimmune of some sort! What do you think?... (4 replies)
... Zenyatta, hi. My understanding about anti-ds-DNA is just what Amy wrote, that anti-ds-DNA is considered highly specific to SLE because it's seen *only* in lupus. And, in my book, your fatigue, "getting everything", and being "under the weather" are all very typical in lupus. The problem, of course, is that all are non-specific, while doctors obviously need to additionally... (2 replies)

... I'm not a Dr. just a patient, so, bear with me, and I'll try to help. White spots on MRI: It is my understanding that these are associated with MS, past strokes and CNS Lupus. Has the Dr. ordered a spinal tap to rule out MS? The other tests being normal is a good thing, however none of those tests to my knowledge are Lupus specific, that is they will not tell if...
