... I have been on two rounds of presidone for sciatic/hip pain. First round was 10mg and no real side effects. Second round was 20mg and no symptoms til near the end of treatment when my appetitie went through the roof. I could not stop eating. My doctor had warned me about that with the higher dose. I thought "yea, right". Well, it happened. Think it is dying down now but... (7 replies)

... Amy, I completely understand. I am not sure how long I will be able to do it on my own, I am going to just keep trying as long as I can. But without the meds I don't think it would even be an option. Some people can get by without them, or a milder medication. And that may only be temporary and it can change at any time. I think we have to just ask ourselves if the... (13 replies)

... Goldenwings... I am with you. I haven't has Lupus nearly as long as you. In fact I am still the new kid on the block really. My sister won't take the steroids or any other meds. And for her that works, since she has a mild case without organ involvement. I am not that lucky and frankly I don't think I could function without them. I know each time they have tried to lower... ... Hello there, I have been on prednisolone for over 30 years now, as long as I have had SLE. The only problem I had - at the beginning for a while until I was stabilised on a suitable dosage - was weight gain. Moon face and body puffiness. Once the dosage was sorted out, that all disappeared. I prsonally wouldn't be here if it wasn't for steroids. Just my story. I... (13 replies)
... I've only been on Prednisone (15 mg) for 2 months. But I can move around now, which I couldn't before. All of my swelling and pain isn't gone, but my rheumy is supposed to add in additional meds the next visit. Hopefully that will help. So for me, I really didn't have a choice, I had to take it. ... I just recently took my first few rounds of a dose-pak and the first one caused my panic attacks to come back and much emotionationalism but most definitely it did help the severe hand joint pain and stiffness I was feeling at the time and my energy was increased for a period afterwards. Then about two weeks later, the pain and stiffness returned as I have been in a horrible... (13 replies)
... I have been on prednisone for 2 years now. I have gained 20 lbs. My dose has been as high as 60-70 mg a day and as low as 10 mg. Now I am on 20mg a day with methotrexate. I have fractured my ribs coughing with pneumonia twice this year. I don't know if this is due to the prednisone or not but had managed to go 41 years without breaking a single bone prior to this year. ... (13 replies)
... I have been taking prednisone for a couple years now, I take a low dose. I started with 5mgs a day and am down to 3mgs when I feel good but go back up when I have a flare. It worked to reduce my joint pain and I didn't gain any weight as a matter of fact I lost weight because I was able to exercise and move without the joint pain. I also just had my bone density test done... (13 replies)
... I have been on prednisone for 10 years now. I started taking it when I first got my symptoms, very painful joints. Right away I had relief! I was taking a big dose for the first few months, and did gain weight. Eventually I was able to lower the dose, and I'm now only on 5 mg a day. I lost almost all of the weight I had gained from it. In all the years I've been taking it the... (13 replies)

... Hi, I just wanted to put in 25 cents worth about prednisone. I have been on it (along with other drugs for RA) for about 3 years. It does help me some. I usually take 2 in the am. But, when the weather gets bad, I go up to 3. And every now and then my Rheumy gives me a steriod shot of the 6 day pak of methylpred. All of it helps, because I can tell that I feel better,... ... Prednisone isn't a fun medication to be on, but it works for so many things, like inflammation. If you do the right things, you can minimize the side effects. Drink a lot of water, to help with the water retention. Reduce or eliminate caffeine to help with the jitters. Reduce sugar and sodium in your diet, which will help with the weight gain. It may, depending on the... (13 replies)
