Lyme Disease Message Board

Lyme Disease Board Index

Hi PLM CT! Babesiosis is caused by a protozoa and is similar to malaria. It is treated with an anti-malarial together with an antibiotic. When Mepron (anti-malarial) is used, it is necessary to use the antibiotic Zithromax (sometimes Biaxin) or resistance could develop. Please talk to your husband's doctor about this. Headaches are a big symptom of Babesiosis and can be a symptom of Lyme also.

The Mepron and Zithromax worked well for my Babesiosis but I needed to treat it long-term.

I think a lot of people who have Lyme restrict carbs and sugar because it can lead to big yeast problems. Make sure your husband takes acidophilus while on antibiotics. The best kind to get are the ones that are refrigerated. You can buy them at most health food stores. Wait at least two hours between taking the antibiotic and the acidophilus or the antibiotic will not be absorbed properly.

Hang in there okay?
